HISTORY
The Rock, Wood-fired Pizza & Spirits’ School of The Rock – Battle of the Bands was created in 2007 as a way to encourage our youth to be creative, work hard and be rewarded for their commitment to music.

We partnered with KZOK 102.5 and asked 24 high school pep bands to make our feet tap with a classic rock song. With the help of The Bob Rivers Show, we ended up with 47 schools involved and they didn’t just impress us, they blew us away!

Each morning, The Bob Rivers Show highlighted different schools and played their songs on air. Listeners and local celebrities helped us select the finalist. Shorecrest High School won the grand prize of $10,000, which they used to fund a trip for the band to perform in the St Patrick’s Day Parade in Dublin, Ireland! Shorewood, their close geographic rivals placed second, winning $5,000 of their own.

We knew that we had something special, as participants got more creative for the second edition of The Rock, Wood Fired Pizza’s School of The Rock – Battle of the Bands. In addition to audio recordings, many of the 47 participating schools created videos funny enough for prime time television. Over 624,000 text message votes determined the finalists. Of those, Liberty High School, creators of one such video took home the Grand Prize and raised the bar for years to come. Rogers High School finished in a close second to win $5,000.
Monroe High School took home the first ever “No School Left Behind” prize of $2,500 . This was awarded to the school that showed outstanding spirit and effort throughout the competition.

In addition to our big winners, four schools received pizza parties supplied by, you guessed it, The Rock.

We are working hard to ensure that the Third Annual The Rock, Wood Fired Pizza & Spirits’ School of The Rock – Battle of the Bands continues to inspire high school bands throughout Western Washington to show us how they Rock!
