Official Contest Rules
NO PURCHASE NECESSARY TO ENTER OR WIN. A PURCHASE WILL NOT INCREASE YOUR CHANCE OF WINNING. VOID WHERE PROHIBITED.
1. How to Register:
a. Registration for the “Third Annual School of the Rock Battle
of the Bands” contest (the “Contest”) will begin at approximately 6AM Pacific Time (“PT”) on Tuesday, September 1, 2009 and end at approximately 11:59 PM PT on Wednesday, September 30, 2009.
b. To secure your participation in the Contest you may register via the following method. In order to register you must be the band leader of an official school-sanctioned high school band and 18 years of age of older.
i. Online: Beginning at 6:00 AM on Tuesday, September 1, 2009 go to www.therockwfp.com, click on the contest entry link, and complete an official entry form including your school name, band student count, band director name, Email, contact phone, song name your band will be playing, artist of song, status of competition in last year’s competition (2008-2009) and any additional comments. Internet entries will be deemed made by the authorized account holder of the email address submitted at the time of entry. The authorized account holder is the natural person who is assigned to the email address by an internet access provider, online service provider or other organization responsible for assigning email addresses or the domain associated with the submitted email address. For purposes of these official rules, receipt of an online registration will be solely determined when the www.therockwfp.com web server records the registration information. Any automated computer receipt (such as one confirming delivery of email) does not constitute actual receipt of a registration form for purposes of these official rules. The Rock Wood Fire Pizza computer is the official time keeping device for this Contest.
c. All registration entries must be received by 11:59 PM PT on Wednesday, September 30th, 2009.
d. All schools that have been registered by the deadline of Wednesday, September 30th, 2009 at 12:00am (midnight) have until12:00am (midnight) on Monday, November 2, 2009 to submit their video entry of their school sanctioned band’s chosen song performance.
2. How to Submit an Entry:
a. Content entry for the “Third Annual School of the Rock Battle of the Bands” contest (the “Contest”) will begin at 6:00AM Pacific Time (“PT”) on Thursday, October 1, 2009 and end at 12:00 AM PT on Monday, November 2, 2009. All mailed entries must be postmarked by November 2nd to be valid. All hard copies of entries should be mailed to:

b. In order to enter you must be the band leader of an official school-sanctioned high school band and 18 years of age of older. Mailed entries will be deemed made by the authorized account holder of the email address submitted at the time of registration. The authorized account holder is the natural person who is assigned to the email address by an internet access provider, online service provider or other organization responsible for assigning email addresses or the domain associated with the submitted email address.
c. To participate in the contest you must enter one (1) copy of your video performance of one (1) song in each of the following three (3) formats.
i. Playable DVD for Comcast On Demand: This DVD must be in playable format. Playable DVDs will play automatically when placed in a standard DVD player. Each DVD must have ten (10) whole seconds of black before and ten (10) whole seconds of black after the recorded content. The DVD should include a form with the following information.
a) The name of the School, the name of the one (1) song being performed, original artist of that song, band leader, number of students in band, contact phone number and e-mail address submitted at the time of initial registration.
b) The exact run time of the video, including the total ten (10) seconds before and ten (10) seconds after of black buffer.
c) A title that is under twenty (20) characters. Characters include any symbols and/or punctuation marks. This is the title that will appear with your video/audio entry on Comcast On Demand. Comcast and The Bob Rivers Show hold the right to approve or deny the content of any title submissions and may alter or change the title submitted where deemed appropriate.
d) A description that is under 250 characters. Characters include any symbols and/or punctuation marks. This is the description that will appear with your video/audio entry on Comcast On Demand. Comcast and The Bob Rivers Show hold the right to approve or deny the content of any description submissions and may alter or change the description submitted where deemed appropriate.
ii. Digital File Disc for use online: This disc should have a digital file for use online. Files may not exceed 30 megabytes, may not be larger than 320×240 and must be a Quicktime file (.mov) of your band performing one (1) song.
iii. YouTube upload for use online: Each band should upload their video at http://www.youtube.com. Included in the title should be the name of the school and song being played. Included in the video description should be “School of the Rock Battle of the Bands 3.”
d. All video entries submitted by the deadline of Monday, November 2, 2009 at 12:00am (midnight) will be posted online and on Comcast On Demand television by the end of the day on Tuesday, December 1, 2009. Online posting locations may include The Bob Rivers Show live streaming video locations, bobrivers.com, therockwfp.com and kzok.com. On Demand entries can be viewed by selecting On Demand\Get Local\NW TV & Radio\KZOK\The Bob Rivers Show\School of the Rock within the Comcast On Demand menus.
e. Limit one (1) entry per high school regardless of means of entry.
f. All submissions become the sole property of KZOK, The Rock Restaurants and The Bob Rivers Show (the “Contest Entities”) and will not be returned.
g. The Contest Entities are not responsible for lost, stolen, damaged, mis-delivered, mangled, incomplete or late entries or for entries not received due to difficulty accessing the internet, service outages or delays, computer difficulties or other technological glitches.
h. Each video/audio submission and each audition performed must be the original performance of the Entrant(s) and must not contain copyrighted materials or any other materials that may be restricted, prohibited or outlawed by federal, state or local laws.
i. The Contest Entities in their sole discretion, reserve the right to disqualify any audio submission or audition if such audio submission or audition contains illegal, indecent or otherwise offensive material, or if such act contains material whose content is deemed, at the sole discretion of the Contest Entities to be unsuitable for public performance or broadcast on KZOK (i.e. audition and audio submission must be radio clean.)
j. Any entries whose submission does not comply with these rules will be disqualified
3. Eligibility Restrictions:
a. The contest is open to official High School-sanctioned bands in the state of Washington. The official contestant must be a band leader who is at least 18 years of age or older as of September 1, 2009 and who resides in the state of Washington. Employees of the Rock Restaurants, Comcast, KZOK (the “Station,”) its licensee, its corporate parents, subsidiaries and affiliates, its advertising agencies, participating sponsors/promotional partners, other radio stations in the Seattle, WA metropolitan area, and the members of their immediate families and/or households are ineligible to participate or win. Subject to all applicable federal, state and local laws and regulations.
b. Listeners are eligible to win a contest conducted by the Station only once every sixty (60) days and a prize valued at $600.00 or more only once every six (6) months.
c. Only one winner per school is permitted in any contest conducted by the Station.
d. Contestants are required to provide truthful information and the Station will reject and delete any entry it discovers to be false or fraudulent. The Station will disqualify any entry from individuals who do not meet the eligibility requirements, and the Station will also delete any entry knowingly received from persons under the age of 13 in compliance with the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act.
e. All participants must be unsigned (no label affiliation, either local or national and auditions must be original). No entrant may be signed to a fully executed record label contract. Any entrant found to be signed to a record label contract will be disqualified from the contest. All participants must be amateur, not professional singers (those whose primary means of support is singing).
3. Prizes:
a. Seven (7) prizes will be awarded as follows:
i. Forth through Seventh Place Prize: A Pizza Party valued at $750, date, location and other specifics to be determined between The Rock Wood Fired Pizza and winning band directors.
ii. Third Place Prize: The Bob Rivers Show will provide a $2,500 “No School Left Behind” Check written to the Second runner up School Sanctioned Band Program.
iii. Second Place Prize: The Rock Wood Fired Pizza will provide a $5,000 Check written to the Runner Up School Sanctioned Band Program
iv. Grand Prize: The Rock Wood Fired Pizza will provide a $10,000 Check written to the Grand Prize School Sanctioned Band Program
b. Prizes do not represent any expectation of future employment at The Rock Restaurants, The Bob Rivers Show and/or KZOK. All prizes must be picked up at the office of The Rock Restaurants The School of The Rock, 1508 “O” St SW, Auburn, WA 98001
c. Any prize or prize certificate not claimed within thirty (30) days of winning will be forfeited by the winner. In the event that a prize or prize certificate is mailed to the winner, it will be with the prior written consent of the winner and therefore, winner assumes the risk of its loss. The Contest Entities are not responsible for the safe arrival of a prize or prize certificate.
d. There is no substitution, transfer, or cash equivalent for prizes, except that Contest Entities may, at their sole discretion, substitute prizes of comparable value or cash. Prizes are expressly limited to the item(s) listed above and do not include taxes, gratuities or any other expenses. Other restrictions may apply.
4. Selection of Winners:
a. Decisions of the Contest Entities with respect to the contest are final.
b. Each song entry meeting all eligibility and registration requirements of these official rules will be posted on www.therockwfp.com and Comcast On Demand where listeners can watch the entries and listen to the songs. Between Tuesday, January 5, 2010 at 6:00am PT and Thursday, February 2, 2010 at 11:59pm PT any listener can text to vote for their favorite school by sending their school’s message (for example: Auburn Riverside High School could be “rock 1” and Ballard High School could be “rock 2”) to short code 24300. Specific text voting instructions will be available on www.kzok.com. Standard text messaging fees may apply and the Contest Entities are not responsible for any fees incurred by this method of voting.
c. The Contest Entities are not responsible for telephone service outages, delays, busy signals, equipment malfunctions and any other technological difficulties that may prevent an individual from completing his/her text message.
d. Listeners may only vote ten times per day per cell phone number.
e. The ten (10) bands that receive the most votes during the voting period specified in Section 4.a of these rules will qualify for the final round of selection. In the event that there is a tie for the 10th position, then all bands that are tied with the 10th highest vote total will qualify for the final round of selection.
f. Beginning at 6:00 am through 8:00 am PT on Friday, February 5, 2010, a panel of three (3) judges will review the bands that qualified for the final round of selection. Those bands will be reviewed based on the following criteria: (i) quality of musicianship; (ii) originality of arrangement; and (iii) execution. Each judge will select their three (3) favorite bands in order from 1st to 3rd (1st being best and 3rd being worst), and each band will be assigned a corresponding point value (3 points for 1st, 2 points for 2nd, 1 points for 3rd. The points from all three judges will be tabulated, and the winners will be selected based on the total points awarded to each band. The band with the most points will win the grand prize. The band with the second most points will win the second prize. The band with the third most points will win the third place prize. Ties will be broken by a straight vote by the 3 judges.
g. The third place, second place, and grand prize winners will be announced by the panel of judges on-air on the Station on Monday, February 8th, 2010 beginning at approximately 8:00 am PT. The winners will also be contacted by the Contest Entities by telephone.
h. The Bob Rivers Show/Station staff will select one (1) consolation prize winner from among all entries that did not finish in the top 10 in voting who they feel deserves to be recognized as determined in the sole discretion of the Bob River Show and the Station
i. Winners need not listen nor be present to win.
j. Winners must execute and return any required Affidavit of Eligibility and/or Release of Liability Prize Acceptance Form within thirty (30) days of notification attempt or prize will be forfeited and an alternate winner will not be chosen.
5. Conditions:
a. Payments of all federal, state and local taxes are solely the responsibility of the winners. Winners will be required to complete and submit an IRS Form W-9 with the winner’s full Social Security Number or the equivalent for receipt of any prize valued at $600 or more or for any prizes awarded by the Station in a calendar year with an aggregate value of $600 or more. Failure to submit a complete W-9 or equivalent will result in forfeiture of the prize.
b. By participating in the contest, the winner or winners agree to have their name, voice, or likeness used in any advertising or broadcasting material relating to this contest without additional financial or other compensation, and, where legal, to sign a publicity release confirming such consent prior to acceptance of the prize.
c. Prior to awarding any prize or prize certificate the Station in its sole discretion may require contest winners (and their travel companions, if any) to sign a liability release, agreeing to hold The Rock Restaurants, The Bob Rivers Show, Comcast and the Station, its corporate licensee, its parent, subsidiary and affiliated corporations and the officers, shareholders, directors, employees, agents and representatives, its advertising agencies, participating sponsors and promotional partners to all be held harmless against any and all claims or liability arising directly or indirectly from the prize or participation in the contest.
d. The Station, in its sole discretion, reserves the right to disqualify any person tampering with the entry process; the operation of the Station’s Web Site or is otherwise in violation of the rules. It further reserves the right to cancel, terminate or modify the Contest if it is not capable of completion as planned, including infection by computer virus, bugs, tampering, unauthorized intervention or technical failures of any sort.
e. The Contest Entities reserve the right to make changes in the rules of the contest, including the substitution of a prize or prizes of equivalent value, which will become effective upon announcement. If due to circumstances beyond the control of the Station, any competition or prize-related event is delayed, rescheduled, postponed or cancelled, the Station reserves the right, but not the obligation, to cancel or modify the Contest and shall not be required to award a substitute prize.
f. Failure to comply with the contest rules may result in a contestant’s disqualification, at the sole discretion of Contest Entities.
g. The Contest Entities are not responsible for typographical or other errors in the printing, the offering or the administration of the contest or in the announcement of a prize.
h. Copies of the written contest rules and a list of all winners (when complete) are available during regular business hours at offices of KZOK located at 1000 Dexter Ave N Suite 100 – Seattle, WA 98109. Copies of the contest rules are also available during normal business hours at the locations listed in section 1.b.ii of these rules.
6. Internet Contest Privacy Policy
a. By use of this website and by entering the Contest, you agree to the KZOK Web Site Terms of Use Agreement and to the use of your personal information as described in the Privacy Policy located at: www.kzok.com.
